The Hole Experience
The opening hole at Natadola Bay is not simply a gentle handshake. It is a proper first test, the kind of hole that tells you very quickly what sort of golf the day will ask of you. From the tee, the fairway sits invitingly ahead, but the coastal breeze and well-placed bunkering mean this is not a hole to attack without thought.
The best play is a committed drive that favours position over pure distance. Longer players may be tempted to take on more of the hole, but the wiser strategy is to find the fairway and give yourself a clear look at the green. The wind can move the ball more than expected, so choose a defined target, stay balanced and make a swing you can trust.
From the fairway, the approach becomes far more manageable. Take note of the pin position and avoid chasing anything too fine early in the round. A safe shot to the centre of the green is never a poor decision here. Walk away with par and you have started Natadola Bay exactly as an experienced player would want: calm, composed and ready for the challenge ahead.
